Roadheaders and hydraulic cutters are commonly used for tunnel excavation projects in soft to medium hard rock. Roadheaders are capable of excavating the precise tunnel profile while removing the material from the face with the loader head and conveyor which ensures seamless, continuous tunneling. Hydraulic cutters also are able to provide precise tunnel profile and are suitable for large diameter tunnels or short access tunnels utilizing smaller excavator/cutter combinations.
