The Challenge
A contractor in North Carolina was tasked with grinding down the tops of 3,600 concrete footers, each 18’’ footers to grind down 9’’-12’’ to meet grade requirements. With a +/- 3’’ tolerance, the job demanded precision.
There was one concern, any damage or fractures to the footers below grade could jeopardize the entire foundation. And with the amount of footers to complete, the solution needed to be efficient as well cost effective.
The Antraquip Solution
The AQ-2 Drum Cutter paired with a Sany 135 excavator proved to be the right tool for the job! Its high production capabilities allowed operators to efficiently remove material from the top of each footer through controlled demolition without causing cracks, fractures, or surface inconsistencies.
The AQ-2 left a smooth, even finish, ideal for the concrete pour that would follow. Each footer was completed in under three minutes. The team is now planning to implement GPS integration to optimize accuracy and workflow even more.
The Outcome
The AQ-2 provided the perfect balance of control, speed/production, and precision, eliminating the risk of damage while helping the contractor increase efficiency to stay on schedule.
